Celia feedback:
An excellent submission that reflects your commitment to learning Adobe InDesign. Additionally you have improved your knowledge of typography as you explored different slab serif fonts until you selected Rockwell for headings to communicate both the retro and masculine nature of this magazine. Combining it with the light sans serif font was an effective combination as the two typefaces contrast well.
The use of the red and yellow colour scheme throughout further contributed to creating a brand look for this magazine. The header graphics containing the football image worked well and used the rule of repetition.
I know the use of the cutout images presented technical challenges but the result was worth the effort and injected some energy into the layouts (page 6/7 and 12/13). Good use of pull quotes as the very young reader need to have information in’ bite size pieces’
Some further refinement was required and I know it was carried out since uploading this version. For example the empty section of column on page 10 created uncomfortable negative space. The contents could have been more dynamic and spread over the first two pages. This spread is the first contact the viewer has with the product at the point of purchase in the shop so it is vital it is really engaging.
Overall an impressive piece of work and I look forward to seeing the printed version. Please evidence the process of preparing files for professional print in your blog i.e ensuring bleed is on all pages, converting images to CMYK etc. What challenges were there when an image proved to be too low resolution? How was it resolved?
